DEAN, PAUL MEEK LIBRARY The University of Tennessee at Martin invites applications for the position of dean of the Paul Meek Library, an executive position with faculty status. The University of Tennessee at Martin, located in Northwest Tennessee, is a comprehensive university which is part of The University of Tennessee System of higher education. The University serves approximately 7,300 students with undergraduate degrees in 80 specialized fields of study and with master’s degrees in selected areas. The Dean is the chief academic officer of the library and reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, exhibit a clear vision and commitment to librarianship in a University setting, articulate and advocate the strategic direction of the Library, provide sound fiscal management, and promote a collaborative environment within the Library, across campus, and throughout the community. The Dean will lead fundraising efforts to support the mission of the library, engaging existing donors and cultivating relationships with prospective donors. The successful candidate must have a record of effective academic leadership; a successful record of teaching and public service; and scholarly or creative accomplishments to justify a tenure-track appointment at the rank of professor. Primary Functions and Responsibilities: • Advocates for the Library as the center of academic life on the campus and as a resource to the community and region. • Supports the University's strategic plan, core academic curriculum, and outreach for equitable access to resources, and promotes information literacy and librarianship within the campus community, region, and state. • Leads and coordinates library staff and faculty personnel in developing collections that support academic programs and promoting information literacy across the curriculum. • Leads fundraising and friend raising efforts for the library. • Provides support for the scholarly activity of faculty librarians. • Prepares, administers, and oversees the Library's budgets and endowments, with particular emphasis on collection development, faculty/staff development, and evolving technological needs. • Supports the University in all SACSCOC and other accreditation efforts. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: • Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent international accreditation. • Knowledge of all areas of an academic library. • Ability to manage complex budgets. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to raise funds from donors and friends of the library and develop new donor prospects. • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies within the library environment. • Experience as a teacher and scholar in a higher education institution. Preferred Qualifications: • Has contributed to the profession through scholarly publications. • Has experience in researching, identifying, developing, and responding to public and private grant opportunities. • Demonstrates an understanding of and appreciation for the faculty tenure and promotion process. • Demonstrates ability to cultivate partnerships within a university community, region, and state. • Has experience with accreditation processes. • Demonstrates active participation in professional organizations, workshops, and/or conferences.
