Old Business:
- The Fall 2009 minutes were
approved.
- THEC Space Allocation
report
- Includes collections,
reader space, and staff space.
- Don Craig discussed some
of the history of space allocation. Most colleges are using old standards
that have little to do with the current colleges. Sent us 2 documents,
one that had the space formula from 1975. Using the 75 standard, it
generated a shortage in MTSU. The new formula has 20,000 too much. Also
sent a study from 1993: the consultants recommended the number of square
feet needed to not decline. Another recommendation was to change formula
to reflect ADA requirements. Most recommendations were not added to
current formula.
- While there are more
electronic resources, there is also more need for information commons and
cafes, etc.
- Concern expressed that we
were not at the table to discuss space issues during the formation of new
formula.
- 93 study said remove
nonlibrary offices from facilities. Roane State has advising center and
learning center in its library, but they are very useful to the library:
Started thinking of the library as the campus learning space.
- Should we be rethinking
library and librarian space?
- Another discussion is
laptops versus desktop.
- It would help to have a
liaison with this group to communicate concerns and needs. May need to
start with a statement of concern of the changing roles of libraries and
the formula is not being formed to reflect those changing roles and
demands.
- Decided to complete the
form we were sent to make sure we have everything right. Then perhaps
craft a statement that we could present to our individual VPs
- Raylean Henry,
vice-chancellor, introduced Dr. Patrick Wilson, the new executive director
of ROCC. Will be in charge of all RODP programs. RODP receives good
feedback on libraries from both students and faculty, especially for
embedded librarian. All things in place will continue for next budget
cycle. Latest enrollment: spring close to 15,000. Averaging 20% growth.
New erates go in effect for fall: discount for out-of-state people who
take RODP courses. Will start marketing to border states. Health IT is up
and running. Academic Audit will be on BPS and BIS. 4th program
to go through academic audit.
- Subsequent discussion on
D2L. May be able to extend more than 5 years. Then talked about changes:
LOR, and course design. Suggested summer retreat after D2L conference in
July.
- Presented Don with a card
and cupcakes. There were some personal thank-yous in the group.
- TBR/campus strategic
planning follow-up
- New TBR strategic plan
- We can have a real impact
on access and student success.
- Look at the new strategic
plan.
New Business
- RODP Virtual Library Update.
- RODP budget is holding
- Only 3 schools do not
have the ezproxy access to RODP. Make sure http://www.rodp.org/includes/ --
is part of your ezproxy referrer protocol.
- RODP embedded librarian:
16 librarians from 12 campuses are embedded in 59 courses.
- RODP librarians summer
Academy—June 24-25 at NSCC.
- State Contract for EBSCO
subscription services-Yildez. Can we negotiate a service charge and have a
statewide contract for EBSCO? Problems with EBSCO service. Several colleges
have switched to other services.
- Southern Bindery went out
of business.
- Summer retreat—Montgomery
Bell Academy and Fall Creek Falls mentioned as possible locations. Dates:
Early August.
- Question on ILL
procedures. Most colleges do not try to refer students to other books that
might serve students instead of ILL request.
Meeting was adjourned.
