Linda J. Theus Course Description This course is designed to help students understand advanced database concepts. It will focus on the utilization of client-server systems in business. Emphasis will be given to the use of Structured Query Language in developing solutions. This course will require students to develop database applications that utilize forms, reports, and queries. The objectives of this course will be met using problem based learning techniques. Course Prerequisites: CIS-122

Evaluation Criteria: Tests: There will be a total of three (3) tests given during the semester. All three tests are mandatory for all students. A minimum-passing grade of 75% on each test is required. Makeup for tests will be given only at the discretion of the instructor under extreme circumstances and if the instructor is notified in advance. All late tests will have 10 points subtracted from the score. Grading Policy: All work
is due on the date and time specified by the instructor. There is no grace
period in this course. Work turned in late will receive a 10% grade penalty.
Work turned in later than one class meeting beyond the due date will not
be accepted and will receive no credit. Each student's final grade will be determined as follows: Tests (3)
50% Grading
Scale: Course Format: As the objectives of this course will be met using problem-based learning techniques, the primary emphasis will be placed on participation in laboratory sessions where students will be presented with real-world projects and assignments to acquire knowledge and build necessary skills. Laboratory sessions will be supplemented and reinforced by brief lectures to introduce new concepts and techniques. Dishonesty will not be tolerated. Please refer to the Academic Honesty statement contained in the College Catalog (Student Handbook). A final grade of F will be given to any student caught cheating. Jackson State Community College adheres to ADA regulations. Persons who have not paid fees for this class are not allowed in the classroom or lab. This includes both children and personal guests. The use
of cell phones and beepers are prohibited in the classroom or lab. If
you must bring a cell phone or beeper into the classroom or lab, switch
it to vibrate. If you should happen to be 'beeped' or 'called', excuse
yourself from the class and take subsequent conversations to an area outside
of the classroom or lab. |
