BRITISH LIT I ORAL REPORTS

Requirements:

1. Each student will select a subject from the master list.

2. The student will prepare two copies of a one page handout which should include:

        a. Student's name

        b. Title and Author of selection

        c. The setting (time and place)

        d. Main characters' names and a short description

        e. For videos only

            1) Director's name

            2) Date of release

            3) Rating

            4) Actor's names

        f. A brief summary of the story (do not use the blurb on the video cover). This should not be over one paragraph.

        g. An evaluation

            1) How the selection fits into the literature we are studying

            2) Length of time spent watching or reading the selection

            3) Whether class time should be spent studying the selection and why or why not

            4) A brief critique of the selection

3. Two copies should be turned in to the teacher. One will be returned with the oral report grade. The other will be kept in a file for future use.

4. Handout should be typed. Copies may be made on campus (library has a copy machine) or at area copy businesses. Information may be in outline form, list form, or in paragraph form.

5. The oral report should not be more than 5 minutes. You should not tell the class a summary of the movie or reading selection, but instead focus on a critique of what you watched or read.

Give us only the high or low points of your written handout—do not read it to us.

6. Oral reports will be graded on how interestingly they are presented and on how informative the handout is. Late reports due to absence or lack of preparation will lose a letter grade.

7. If the student is dissatisfied with the selection, please see the instructor for a possible alternative.
